"Evolution of a Love Affair Volume 1" by Duprai Marcel is an urban R&B pop album that features a soulful voice and a very modern sound. The songs on this excellent CD jump out at you. Marcel's voice is timeless, and the arrangements are full of catchy hooks that you'll want to sing and dance to. "Evolution of a Love Affair Volume 1" features Marcel's distinct urban R&B vocals and overall sound. His powerful delivery with cutting edge accompaniment will remind you musically of R. Kelly and Usher. The excellent production value readies the album for any sound medium. Highlights include the opener, "Dreams," which establishes hip-hop and R&B vibes and gives the listener an intimate taste of the artist's voice. "Hit Me Up" is ready to hit the club, with a fat beat and extreme shake-ability. "My Baby" closes things out with a great little soul number with a jazzy/bluesy flavor. "Never Cancel the Stage!" by Two Ton Shoe is a funk rock album with elements of dance and club brought to you by a talented group of musicians. The first thing you notice about these guys is that they have a sound that is truly their own. You get wicked bass, precise and creative drumming, slinky guitar, and party-minded vocals and lyrics that create a sound not dissimilar from Jamiroquai. There are a great deal of twists and turns in these songs, ranging from soulful, acoustic love songs to funky dance music that won't let you sit still. The arrangements are all solid, with great care taken in making the sound full and really creating a musical experience. The recording quality is excellent – the louder the speakers, the better. Highlights include "Move in the Light," a bumper and a shaker with a driving beat and nice vocal harmony. "Free" features some tricky guitar work, nice accents, and a soulful vocal performance. "Space Bugs (Gilmania Remix)" closes things out with a funked out bass line and a serious groove that makes you want to move. Overall, "Never Cancel The Stage!" is a good, fun album with outstanding musicianship. If you enjoy funk rock and need a new album to groove to, pick up this one.-William

"Gravity Rocks" by The Larch is a very memorable, hook-laden collection of pop/rock tunes. The musical arrangements of these tunes immediately grasp the listener's attention. Catchy, clean guitar riffs and solos, backed by groovy drum arrangements form the musical foundation of these tunes. Moreover, this band proves to have a fine-tuned talent for crafting unforgettable vocal melodies. "That's Where You're Wrong Carruthers" is a superb demonstration of this band's smooth, warm vocals, space-filling background vocal arrangements, skillful lyricism, and tightly synchronized instrumentation. "Copernican Principle" ventures more into an edgier rock arena while maintaining a refreshing pop sensibility. Moreover, this album is crafted with careful, quality production. "Northeast Girl" is a smooth blend of Country, Blues and Folk brought to you by Singer/Songwriter Robin Lee Field. Robin's voice is well seasoned and has a booming, powerful quality behind a graceful delivery. The lyrics are very real-world and based on reflections of life, love and emotional intricacies. "The Voice" is the instrument at the forefront of the sound. The arrangements behind are subtly driving and delicately accentual, with a good instrument variation. The production quality is very good and the musicianship is quite good. Highlights include the title track "Northeast Girl," a touching story about the artist's love for Boston. "How About Some Sweet Love" features an intimate vocal performance and a nice melodic guitar progression. "1975" has another nice guitar progression and a lovely story, reflective of earlier years. "Songs in Black & White" by Chris Pick is an inspiring contemporary/pop album, demonstrating a gentle simplicity that awakens the heart. Songs like "Yes Virginia" give deep insight into the amount of heart and passion that went into each of these songs. This uplifting track brings hope in light of tragedy using an emotion-laden piano progression, well-written poetic lyrics, and a tear-inducing vocal performance. In general, Chris's compositions reflect a soft, gentle quality and are mostly piano-driven. His melodies and vocal tone find their way straight to the soul. Moreover, "Our First Dance" delivers a memorable tribute to the beauty of love, and is complimented by the gracious sounds of the violin. "Remembrance" by the Rob Dickenson Band is a western folk album that draws on many different influences. You'll hear various southern styles as well as hints of gypsy, psychedelic and traditional Irish. With such a wide range of stylistic attributes, the final product is certainly unique in its own right. Above all, these songs are simply entertaining. The lyrics are creative, poetic, and flowing. Additionally, the musicianship is superior and the arrangements are unique and are all dedicated to the task at hand. Standout tracks include "Frolic," with its bouncy beat and Irish-flair. This one's a foot-stomper for sure. "Jesus I'm a Poor Man Too" features inspiring lyrics and some nice harmony in the chorus. "Say On And On" has a haunting quality, with delicate piano and intimate vocals. "Move On" by Kenn Morr is an adult rock album fused with a little country. The standout aspect of this CD is Ken's intimate and honest voice, which draws you in. The arrangements are subtle and deep with nice layers, including tasteful harmonies on a number of tracks. Kenn's style is very laid back and "cool." Another great quality is the varying textures of the songs, each having it's own identity. You'll hear a great number of influences, such as reggae and Celtic, as well as an overall organic nature to the sound that supports the lyrical content. Highlights are "Get Back" with a nice piano progression and some smooth vocals. "Blue Morn" features some nice harmonica work, nice vocal delivery and interesting changes. "Girl With the Auburn Hair" is cleverly mysterious, with a road weary feel. "Turn Me Around" by Siya Jika is a lively Afro-fusion album brought to you by a very talented group. Singer Enid Holden's voice has a tone similar to Joni Mitchell with a little Edie Brickell thrown in. Mix in a well traveled ethnic quality and we get a refreshingly innovative sound. The players accompanying her are diverse and energetic, and the arrangements are complete. You'll hear an American- and Balkan-folk quality to the sound as well as various world influences. Overall, the album has a very "live" sound to it and is easy on the ears. HIghlights include the opener "Sizo Bonan," which presents a very upbeat vibe, and at the same time, relaxes you with its calming vocals. "Floated" is aptly titled. It is a classic lounge tune with a bit of Latin and world influence. Moreover, the vocals are very sultry. "Deserter" features the fine voice of husband-collaborator, Asim, and is an inspiring tune. "Heart of Matter" by Michael O'Connell is a dreamy Electronica album that features dynamic grooves and lush textures. The songs are all very unpredictable and feature very emotion-conscious arrangements. There is a nice mix of organic and synthetic instruments. The album is well mixed and flows nicely from track to track. The vibe is mellow and will relax you while it stimulates your mind. Highlights include the opener "Liquid Clouds Suite," which sets the table nicely with big ambient synths that transition into a fluid and intelligent sequence. "Red Horizon" showcases a few more organic instruments (including electric guitar), and has a soft, but driving beat. "Dark Moon Transit" opens with a wicked beat and wraps the album up well with a great sense of closure.
